Dr. Schwartz studied physiology at the University of Toronto, receiving his B.Sc. in 1977. Completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1981, also at the University of Toronto, he was subsequently accepted for a one year internship at the prestigious Toronto Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Schwartz undertook his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Toronto being granted specialty certification in 1986. He completed a Master’s Degree in oro-facial nerve physiology and microsurgical nerve repair in 1990.

Dr. Schwartz is currently Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery at the Rouge Valley Health Complex.  He also holds a post-graduate teaching appointment at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a past President of the Great Lakes Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and past President of the Medical Staff Association of Scarborough Grace Hospital.

Dr. Schwartz is a co-founder of The Crown Institute. His interests focus on Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD), Whiplash Assoicated Disorders (WAD) and Headache research and treatment. He has extensive experience in the therapeutic use of Botulinum toxin (eg Botox) in these areas.

Dr. Schwartz is a member of the Ontario and Canadian Societies of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has surgical staff privileges at the Scarborough Hospital, Grace Division and the Rouge Valley Health Complex, Ajax and Pickering Campus.
