Dr. Freund began his training in 1977 at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, earning an honors B.Sc. in molecular biology. He subsequently studied Dentistry at the University of Toronto earning his DDS in 1985. This was followed by a one year internship at the Toronto General Hospital. He then returned to McMaster University completing his medical degree in 1989. Medical licensure followed a one year internship in Hamilton. His post-graduate training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was carried out at the University of Toronto finishing in 1993 with the successful completion of his Fellowship examinations.

Presently, Dr. Freund is a part time clinical instructor at the University of Toronto, a head and neck consultant recognized by the Ontario Insurance Commission, as well as a private practitioner in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is the co-founder of the Institute for Head and Neck Therapy where he specializes in the research and treatment of painful conditions of the head and neck. Dr. Freund lectures nationally and internationally on temporomandibular disorders.
